Liberty’s Father: George Washington and the American Civil War

Lincoln and the South
March 12-14, 2009

The Center’s second major conference, Lincoln and the South, will be held at the University of Richmond. Probably no president has ever been as vilified as Abraham Lincoln was in the South during the Civil War. Outstanding scholars on the subject will convene to discuss this bitter relationship. This enlightening event is offered in partnership with the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond during the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth.
Click here to learn more about the conference, scheduled speakers, special events and to see Civil War era political prints satirizing Lincoln's relationship with the North. This section will be updated regularly as necessary.
If you wish to receive a registration packet via regular mail please email education@tredegar.org or you can register on-line here. |

Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One
Date: Saturday, March 21, 2009
Time: 2 p.m.
Fee: $10 or free with paid admission or Center membership
Harriet Tubman is perhaps the most well-known of all the Underground Railroad's "conductors." During a ten-year span she made 19 trips into the South and escorted over 300 slaves to freedom. And, as she once proudly pointed out to Frederick Douglass, in all of her journeys she "never lost a single passenger." Professional actress and historian Gwendolyn Briley-Strand brings to life the courageous story of Harriet Tubman in a stirring 45-minute performance. (NPS Theater). |
